We continue in a hard bop bag with our next jam on March 4. The first featured tune is “Work Song,” a Nat Adderley tune that will provide an opportunity for you to practice your minor blues ideas. Wikipedia says this first appeared on a Nat album, also called Work Song, that featured Wes Montgomery and Bobby Timmons (of “Moanin'” fame). I’m kind of embarrassed that I don’t have that record. The second number is “This I Dig of You,” from Hank Mobley’s Soul Station LP. The house band is up to our usual stellar standards: Ken Hoffman (ts), Doug Brown (gtr), John Schaffer (bs), and Joey Banks (dr).
We hope to see you at the Rigby on the 4th. And if you come, do us a favor and bring a rhythm section player or two with you. The drummer’s arms fell off at the last jam because the poor guy had to play every number.
